Urine drug testing at a specialist clinic

A urine drug test checks a sample for signs of recent use of certain substances. Our tests are rapid screening tests, carried out at our clinic in Bukit Jalil. They give a preliminary result, which is useful for personal reassurance, family concerns, monitoring during treatment and many workplace needs.

Because Sanctuary Clinics treats addiction and mental health, testing here is handled by people who understand why someone might be asking for it. If a result raises questions, you can speak to our team about next steps.

Who can use our drug testing service?

Our rapid urine drug screening suits many everyday needs. Some situations, such as court cases or certain regulated industries, need specific procedures and documentation. Please tell us why you need the test before booking so we can confirm it is suitable.

Personal screening

For your own peace of mind, or to understand your use of a substance. Results are shared with you only.

Family concerns

Parents and partners sometimes ask for a test when they are worried about someone they love. The person being tested must agree to it, and we can help the family talk about what happens next.

Employers and pre-employment

Workplace and pre-employment drug testing for companies, by individual booking or by arrangement for groups. Employer enquiries

Treatment and recovery

Monitoring as part of treatment, including our Recovery Care Program, or testing requested by a doctor or psychologist.

Rehabilitation providers

Testing requested by a rehabilitation centre or treatment programme before admission or during aftercare.

Legal and forensic testing

Our rapid screening is not designed as a forensic or court-ordered test. If you need a test for a legal, regulatory or immigration purpose, check with the organisation asking for it what type of test and documentation they accept, and tell us when you enquire.

What to expect at your drug test

  1. Book. Message us on WhatsApp with the test you need and a preferred day. Our clinic is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm.
  2. Arrive and check in. Please bring your IC or passport so your result can be matched to you. Tell us about any medicines you take, including prescription, over-the-counter and herbal products.
  3. Give a urine sample. You give a sample in a private toilet, following our collection procedure so that the sample can be relied on.
  4. The test is read. A trained member of our team reads the test and records the result.
  5. Receive your result. You receive a written result. If the screen is non-negative, we explain what that means and whether confirmatory testing is advisable.

Preliminary, not laboratory-confirmed

Results from our rapid tests are preliminary screening results. They are not laboratory-confirmed.

A non-negative screen means a substance may be present above the test’s cut-off level. It does not, on its own, prove drug use. Where a result will be used for an important decision, such as employment or treatment, a confirmatory laboratory test is recommended. Ask our team about the options.

Accuracy and limitations of rapid drug tests

Rapid urine drug tests are widely used for screening, but no screening test is perfect. Please keep these points in mind:

  • False positives can happen. Some prescription, over-the-counter and herbal medicines can cause a positive screen for certain substances. Always tell us what you take.
  • False negatives can happen. A test can miss a substance if the amount is below the test’s cut-off, if use was some time ago, or if the sample is very dilute.
  • Detection times vary. How long a substance can be found in urine depends on the substance, the amount, how often it is used and the person’s body. We cannot say exactly when a test will turn negative.
  • A screen is not a diagnosis. A test result does not show whether someone has an addiction, how much they used or whether they were impaired.
  • Confirmation matters. For consequential decisions, a non-negative screen should be confirmed by laboratory testing.

Confidentiality of your results

Your results are handled as confidential health information, in line with Malaysia’s personal data protection requirements and our professional obligations. We share results only with you, or with a person or organisation you have authorised in writing, such as an employer that has arranged your test. We do not share results with anyone else unless the law requires it.

Workplace and pre-employment drug screening

We work with companies that need workplace drug screening or pre-employment drug testing for new hires. Tell us what you need and we will propose an arrangement and a quotation.

  • Volume pricing for groups of employees
  • Drug screening with or without alcohol testing
  • Reporting in the format your HR team needs
  • Testing at our Bukit Jalil clinic

Testing works best inside a clear workplace policy. If an employee’s result raises concerns, our corporate wellbeing and Employee Assistance Programme team can support the employee and advise HR. For a structured, clinically led response when an employee tests positive, see our positive drug test management service.

For an employer quotation, tell us

  • Your organisation’s name
  • Approximate number of employees to test
  • Which substances you need screened
  • Pre-employment, random or for-cause testing
  • Any documentation your policy requires

Worried about drug or alcohol use?

A test can answer one question, but it rarely answers the bigger one: what to do next. If you are concerned about your own use or someone else’s, our team can help.

Start with a free 30-minute consultation. It is non-diagnostic and helps you understand your options, from addiction treatment and our outpatient Recovery Care Program to family counselling and psychiatric care.

If someone is in danger

If someone has taken too much of a substance, is very drowsy, has trouble breathing or is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not wait for a test.

Drug testing: common questions

How much does a drug test cost?

The 7-Panel Drug Screen costs RM75 and the 8-Test Drug & Alcohol Screen costs RM90, including collection and a written result. Individual tests cost RM10 to RM25 each plus a RM35 collection and report fee per visit, so a single test starts from RM45. Employers can ask for volume pricing.

Which substances can be detected?

We screen for methamphetamine, THC (cannabis), opiates (morphine), ketamine, cocaine, benzodiazepines, K2 (synthetic cannabinoids) and alcohol. The 7-panel screen covers the first seven; the 8-test screen adds alcohol. We do not currently test for tramadol or etomidate.

Is the test done using urine?

Yes. Our drug tests use a urine sample, collected in a sealed test cup. Alcohol is checked with a rapid dipstick test. We offer rapid screening tests only; if you have been asked for hair or blood testing, message us and we will point you in the right direction.

How long does it take to receive results?

Rapid screening tests are read at our clinic. Ask us about timing for your written result when you book. If confirmatory laboratory testing is needed, it takes longer, and we will tell you the expected time when it is arranged.

Can prescription medicines affect the results?

Yes. Some prescription, over-the-counter and herbal products can affect certain screening tests. Tell us everything you take before the test. Do not stop a prescribed medicine to pass a drug test without speaking to your doctor first.

Can employers arrange drug testing?

Yes. Employers can arrange pre-employment and workplace drug testing for individual staff or groups, with the panel and reporting you need. Message us with your organisation’s name, the number of employees and the substances you need, and we will send a quotation.

Is confirmatory laboratory testing available?

Our tests give preliminary screening results. Where a result will be used for an important decision, laboratory confirmation is recommended. Ask our team about the options available.

Are my results confidential?

Yes. Results are treated as confidential health information and are shared only with you or with someone you have authorised in writing, such as an employer that arranged the test, unless the law requires otherwise.

Can you provide documentation for workplace or legal purposes?

We provide a written result for every test, which many employers accept. Some workplaces and all legal or forensic processes need specific procedures, such as chain-of-custody records and laboratory confirmation. Tell us who has asked for the test and what they require, and we will tell you honestly whether our service meets it.
