Choosing the right mental health services for you
Many people are unsure who to see first. Here is a simple guide to the professionals in our team.
Psychiatrist
A medical doctor who specialises in mental health. Psychiatrists diagnose conditions and prescribe and review medication, for example for depression, bipolar disorder or ADHD.
Clinical psychologist
Trained in psychological assessment and evidence-based talking therapies such as CBT. Psychologists carry out formal assessments, including ADHD assessments, and provide therapy.
Counsellor
Provides talking therapy to help you work through stress, relationships, grief, life changes and other emotional difficulties.
Many people see more than one professional, for example therapy alongside medication. Our clinicians work together, so you can move between services without starting again.
Psychiatry
For assessment, diagnosis and medication.
